Global connection settings
-
In order to change the global connection settings, select JIRA > Connection Settings in the Ceptah Bridge menu.
-
The connection settings window will be displayed.
-
Enter the root URL (address) of the JIRA server. It will be the beginning of the address of you JIRA Home screen. E.g. for https://mycompany.atlassian.net/jira/your-work enter https://mycompany.atlassian.net.
-
Choose the connection method:
Auto - connect using cookies to JIRA Server and using Basic Authentication to JIRA Cloud. Using cookies for the JIRA Cloud connection provides some performance improvement.
Basic - always use Basic Authentication.
OAuth - use OAUth authentication. This will only work with JIRA Server. Use this option if your JIRA Server has custom authentication, such as 2-factor authentication or Single Sign-On (SSO).
Web login - use JIRA itself to log in. When a connection is required, JIRA will be opened in a built-in web browser. Once you have logged in, the browser window will close automatically. Use this option if your JIRA Server has custom authentication, such as 2-factor authentication or Single Sign-On (SSO), but you cannot use OAuth.
-
Enter additional parameters depending on the selected connection method.
-
Auto or Basic
-
Enter the user e-mail for JIRA Cloud or the username for JIRA Server.
-
For JIRA Cloud, generate and enter an API token. For Server, enter the user password.
If the access token or password field is left blank, Ceptah Bridge will prompt for the token or password on demand.
Please be aware that the token or password will be stored on the local computer.
-
-
OAuth (works only with JIRA Server)
If you are not a JIRA Administrator
Ask your JIRA Administrator to provide you with the Client ID, Client Secret and, optionally, port number, and enter them into the above fields.
If you are a JIRA Administrator
-
In JIRA, go to Settings > Applications and under INTEGRATIONS select Application links.
-
Click Create link.
-
Select "External application" for "Application type" and "Incoming" for "Direction".
Click "Continue".
-
Enter a name for the application link, copy and paste the redirect URL from the Ceptah Bridge connection settings and select the "Write" permission.
Click "Save".
If you want to use a different local port, you can change it in Ceptah Bridge connection settings.
-
Copy and paste the Client ID and Client secret back to Ceptah Bridge.
Please be aware that the Client Secret will be stored on the local computer.
Please note that in this context, strictly speaking, the Client Secret is not a proper client secret. From the OAuth point of view, a native client application, such as Ceptah Bridge, cannot securely store a client secret. In this scenario, it is rather a redundant piece of information that is not optional in JIRA. Still, it may provide some additional degree of security.

Web login
Web login does not have additional parameters.
-
-
If you are using Tempo with JIRA Cloud, generate an access token and enter it in the "Tempo access token" field. It will be stored on the local computer. The access token is not required for JIRA Server.
-
If you are using a proxy server to access JIRA, tick 'Use proxy server' and enter the proxy server connection parameters. If you want to use the default proxy settings, leave the option unticked.
-
You can press the 'Test Connection' button to make sure that the connection works before saving the settings.
-
Press OK or Cancel to save or discard the settings entered respectively.
The settings are stored in your Windows profile and are unique for each Windows user.
If you try to use other functions of the Bridge and have not specified general settings yet, the settings form will automatically open.
